DAT files are a generic file type storing binary data. The way this binary format should be interpreted depends on the application that the file is intended to be used for.
Usage
In Mario Kart 8, DAT-files are used for:
- Ghost Data: Player Ghosts, Staff Ghosts, and Downloaded Ghosts.
- MKTV Replays
- Save Data
In Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, DAT-files are used for:
- Ghost Data: Player Ghosts, Staff Ghosts, Downloaded Ghosts, and ghostlist.dat.
