Similarities to Wii's BRFNT

Upon some quick investigation, it appears BFFNT is more like BRFNT than I thought. The header has one extra 4-byte value. CMAP and CWDH sections are completely identical, and the image data is also in an identical format. Porting fonts from MKWii to MK8 and vice-versa is probably very possible and probably not too time consuming.
